MP3 Player Guide

What is an MP3 Player?

Basically an MP3 Player is hardware that allows the user to listen to music or sounds in the mp3 format. These come in all shapes and sizes, there are several types of mp3 players. Two of the main types are Jukeboxes and Flash Memmory based. Both of which I will introduce in detail later on. One of the best features of Flash Memmory based players is that they are skip free, almost all of them have no moving parts. So lets say you are running or working out at the gym, you can just clip it on to your shirt or put it in your pocket and you'll forget it's even there. Jukeboxes have their advantages especially in the memmory capcity department. They can easily hold an entire CD Collection because they use massive hard drives to store files.

The great thing is, there is an mp3 player for all budgets. Prices range from $99 - $400+ depending on quality and features. Just to start us off here are some great deals on mp3 players from Dell icon, Apple , Rio icon, and Creative icon exclusively for browsers of ipodmini.us.

What should I look for in an MP3 Player?

  1. Memmory Capacity - I would recommend finding an mp3 player that has at least 1gb of memmory, that can roughly hold 250 CD Quality songs.
  2. Size & Weight - Are you an active person or just a casual listener? Either way, I recommend getting a player small in size yet has all the features of a full size model such as the Dell DJ (Get 20 Free Tracks, Free Shipping, and 10% off for a limited time)icon. Usually the jukebox style mp3 players like the Archos Jukebox weigh anywhere from 1 - 3 lb's.
  3. Interface Type - How do you want to connect this player to your computer? Most new computers have a high-speed USB Drive which in my opinion is the fastest and easiest way to connect your mp3 player with any computer. All that's needed is for you to plug the cable into your USB Slot and it's ready to go. Some players like the Creative Nomad Zen Extra support both USB 2.0 and the older USB 1.1, make sure the player is compatible with your USB Version.
  4. Upgrades - Not all players allow you to upgrade the hardware, yet some excel in this area. Like the Creative Nomad MuVo , this is a flash memory player so you can increase the memory capacity. You can quadruple the capacity of expandable mp3 players for under $200.

Jukebox Players

These are geared more towards the casual listener due to the hard drive and bulky size. Physical activity may cause skipping. Starting with the bad news, we move forward to the plusses of owning a jukebox mp3 player.

Since these are hard drive based, they usually can hold massive amounts of files, with the average memmory capacity being 20GB that's about 5,000 CD quality songs. Literally this can store your entire CD collection into its hard drive. You definetley can not beat that for long boring road trips.

One thing that most people may not know is that some of these jukeboxes can even play video files like the RCA Lyra Jukebox and Archos AV320 . You can store all your favorite movies on these players and watch them on the crisp and clear LCD screen. Or if your travelling, connect it to any TV at a hotel and watch your favorites on the big screen. Not only that, these players act as a portable hard drive, store your video, word, photos, and more. Connect it to any computer and you can backup all your files on to the hard drive. So just in case your laptop gets stolen or lost, you'll have a backup of all the important files.

Flash Memmory

If your an active person this is definetley the mp3 player for you. Not only is it lightweight (most of them weigh just a few ounces), but it's also durable and 99% skip free.

These players store files on a memmory card. How much? Depends, you can easily add memmory to these type of players, capacity can range from 32mb - 1gb. A 256mb Flash Memmory Card can hold 8 hours worth of music. To use these additional memmory cards make sure that your flash memmory mp3 player has an expansion slot. A great mp3 player with an expandable flash memmory slot would be the RCA Lyra™ , this comes with 256mb memmory and you can updgrade it to whatever your liking.

Software

There are many programs you can use to transfer your mp3's to an mp3 player. Actually, this software usually comes with the player itself. But your probably wondering what if I want a program that can also organize my mp3 files, optimize digital files, and even have the ability to download/buy my favorite mp3's. Well MusicMatch Jukebox Plus can do all of that and more, it's on sale right now..
